Mind the Gaps Workshops: Facilitating Collaboration for Corridor Conservation

by Jessica Stempien

The Mind the Gaps Workshops, hosted by the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, bring together diverse partners and interested parties to accelerate conservation solutions across priority gaps in the Florida Wildlife Corridor. These workshops convene community members from multiple sectors to share knowledge, explore challenges, and identify pathways that advance regional conservation goals.

Each workshop integrates hands-on learning, collaborative dialogue, and knowledge exchange. Sessions are tailored to the unique ecological, cultural, and community context of regions across Florida, ensuring that solutions are both locally informed and strategically aligned.

Our Role

To date, Rooted in Process has supported five Mind the Gaps Workshops statewide. Our role began with facilitating an action planning session to help the planning team clarify goals, roles, and expectations for the initiative. As lead facilitator, our responsibilities have included:

  • Facilitating weekly planning meetings to build shared understanding of local context and workshop objectives
  • Designing full-day, in-person workshops for 50–80 participants across five Florida regions
  • Training station facilitators and preparing facilitation teams
  • Creating all facilitation tools, materials, and process guides
  • Transcribing and synthesizing workshop data into comprehensive reports
  • Conducting post-workshop debrief sessions to support continuous improvement

These activities help create a consistent, participatory experience across workshops while honoring the unique needs of each region.
